AlgoCities

Algorand Web3 2026-03-31

AlgoCities was never supposed to be a city-builder. It started because I was incredibly bored of looking at tables of data.

Visualizing the invisible

Every day I would stare at block explorers, watching nodes and validators crunch numbers. It felt so lifeless. I knew there was a massive heartbeat to the network under the hood, but the tools we used made it look like a boring spreadsheet. I just wanted to actually feel the network moving.

Boredom and little workers

So, I started playing around with throwing some 3D blocks on a screen every time live data came in. Eventually, those blocks became a sprawling city.

The moment I truly fell in love with this project was when I added the little diggers. Watching them scurry around autonomously for every active pool on the network... it suddenly wasn't just data anymore. It felt alive. Sometimes I just leave the browser open on my second monitor, watching the city breathe, feeling weirdly proud of this useless, beautiful ant farm I built.
